In particular circumstances, normally harmless molecules can stimulate an acquired immune response and the development of an immunological memory. Thus, in sensitized individuals, an inflammatory reaction and tissue damage are generated each time the body comes into contact with the same antigen. These hyper reactions of the organism to antigens, often environmental, not harmful, are called hypersensitivity reactions.

The reaction of hyper sensitivity type 1 or anaphylactic is generated in response to widespread environmental antigens, called allergens, which cause the production of specific IgE at the first contact with the host organism. Pathological manifestations are called allergies. Since the most important pathological reactions appear a few minutes after exposure to the antigen, this reaction is also called immediate hypersensitivity.

The most common allergens are low molecular weight proteins or chemicals that bind to proteins, present in the environment, often of animal or plant origin. Among the most frequent we mention the pollen granules, the cat’s dandruff, the feces of house dust mite, as well as some foods, drugs and insect poisons. Depending on the entry route of the allergen, the symptoms associated with the allergic phenomenon will also be different.

The most common route of contact with allergens is the inhalation route through the mucosa of the airways. Mild allergies to inhaled allergens are manifested as allergic rhinitis (often called “hay fever”), characterized by an inflammation of the nasal mucosa triggered by exposure to an allergen by the allergic subject: the latter’s immune system recognizes the substance as harmful and reacts by producing specific antibodies (IgE) to fight it. The IgE, in turn, bind to other cells of the immune system, mast cells, which release large amounts of histamine, a substance that causes the dilation of the arterial capillaries, induces the secretion of aqueous mucus, stimulates the nerve endings causing the sensation of itching and sneezing, finally recalls the blood plasma in tissues that causes the edema of the affected part.

Allergic rhinitis is characterized by a sneezing crisis, serous rhinorrhea, obstruction, nasal and ocular itching. Local edema is observed and increased mucus secretion. Sometimes it can be extended to the ear and throat with accumulation of secretions in the breasts and in the trumpet of Eustachio and risk of occurrence of bacterial infections. Environmental allergens can also cause allergic conjunctivitis with ocular itching, tearing and inflammation. All these manifestations are very annoying, but usually they resolve without causing serious tissue damage and, in the case of pollens, they are seasonal phenomena of short duration.

The condition of allergic asthma, defined as a form of allergic bronchial hyperreactivity, is more serious. The allergen causes the degranulation of the submucosal mast cells of the lower airways and after a few seconds there is an increase in fluid and mucus secreted in the respiratory tract and a bronchial constriction due to the contraction of the smooth muscles of the bronchi, all effects that lead to the obstruction of airways. The inflammatory reaction also involves the formation of a rich exudate of lymphocytes and plasma cells and the cytokines secreted by the lymphocytes cause a chronic and persistent alteration of the airways that can cause irreversible damage to the lung tissue. In chronic asthma the airways are almost completely occluded by mucus.

The alimentary approach

Eliminating milk and dairy products is the first essential food step to be taken, for those suffering from episodes of recurrent sinusitis and allergic rhinitis. The high content of casein, a protein very difficult to digest, accumulates and tends to ignite the intestinal walls. The result is an immune alert with the immediate consequence (in those predisposed to sinusitis or rhinitis) of production of the mucus to expel toxins, which within certain limits is physiological; besides it becomes a land for the proliferation of microorganisms.

Another consequence of the high consumption of milk and dairy products is the increase of histamine, an inflammatory mediator that creates mucosal congestion. Avoid drinking alcohol and beverages containing caffeine and prefer hot liquids, herbal teas in order to promote drainage of mucosa.one and inflammation. All these manifestations are very annoying, but usually they resolve without causing serious tissue damage and, in the case of pollens, they are seasonal phenomena of short duration.


The phytotherapeutic approach

In addition to proper nutrition, the phytotherapeutic approach is fundamental in order to re-establish the correct balance of the organism.

1) The approach with our supplements and medical devices

FitoAllergy drops, useful in case of allergic rhinitis, is a food supplement based on Ribes and Perilla. As for the Ribes, these drops contain a complex called “Total native currant”, which is obtained by maceration of fresh Ribes nigrum buds in alcohol and glycerine and, unlike the classic gemmoderivato of ribes nigrum, is not then diluted, resulting then ten times more concentrated. The perilla is useful for the body’s natural defenses and is found in these drops in the form of soft extract titrated 1.5% in total flavonoids and 1% rosmarinic acid. Perilla Frutescens contains in the leaves a high quantity of flavonoids and rosmarinic acid.

In the study “Extract of Perilla frutescens enriched for rosmarinic acid, a polyphenolic phytochemical, inhibits seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis in humans” (Takano, Osakabe et al., 2004) it was found that the extract of Perilla rich in rosmarinic acid could be an effective remedy for seasonal allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. But there is extract and extract: the soft Perilla extract contained in Fitoallergy, compared to a dry extract, is processed at low temperatures (below 40 °), is already in liquid form and therefore immediately bioavailable and the only titled 1,5% in total Flavonoids and 1% in Rosmarinic Acid (mainly responsible for the antiallergic activity of the perilla leaves).

How to use Fitoallergy drops? It is recommended to take 25 drops twice a day in the acute phase and 25 drops a day in prevention, diluted in half a glass of water. In prevention we recommend taking 60 days without interruption.

FitoAllergy Nasal Spray, medical device, is a useful adjuvant in the treatment of symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as nasal congestion, suitable for adults and children: protects and moisturizes the nasal mucosa and restores the nasal physiological conditions. Contains: sea water (with decongestant action); hyaluronic acid of vegetable origin with a high molecular weight that allows a rapid re-epithelization of the mucosa favoring mucociliary drainage; sodium bicarbonate; glyceric extracts of perilla (antiallergic activity), red tea (antioxidant), drosera (decongestant and anti-inflammatory activity) and adhatoda (due to its marked anti-inflammatory activity).

Hyaluronic acid of high molecular weight, patented, was effective in the case of rhinitis (even during pregnancy and pediatrics), sinusitis and post-operative. There are numerous scientific studies in this regard, including: “Hyaluronic acid and upper airway inflammation in pediatric population: A systematic review, J Biol Regul Homeost Agents, 2014 Jul-Sep; 28 (3): 537-43”, “Impact of intranasal sodium hyaluronate on the short-term quality of life of patients undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis”, Department of Neuroscience, Reproductive and Odontostomatologic Science, ENT Unit, Federico II University, Naples, Italy, Department of Molecular Medicine and Medical Biotechnology.

How to use Fitoallergy spray? If necessary, remove the protective cap, and after gently blowing the nose, insert the dispenser into a nostril and spray for 1-2 consecutive times; do the same in the other nostril. The application can be repeated for 4-5 times throughout the day. Wash the dispenser after use. The particular dispenser of which this spray is provided avoids the use of added preservatives that could cause allergic reactions in contact with the nasal mucosa.

During acute allergy it is also recommended Phyto-aerosol, for adults and children, specific adjuvant for the typical symptoms of the cold such as nasal congestion and irritation of the nasal mucosa, and based on plant extracts of sundew, echinacea, grapefruit seeds, thyme serpillo and essential oils of mountain pine and eucalyptus. We recommend using one or two vials a day. In case of individual predisposition to irritation phenomena such as allergic rhinitis and sinusitis, this aerosol can also be used as a preventive, 1 ampoule per day for 15 days, to be repeated at least 3 times a year.

2) The gemmotherapeutic approach

Ribes nigrum bud extract, at a dose of 50 drops in the morning fasting and in the evening before going to sleep “is the great phytotherapeutic remedy of allergy because it has a cortisone-like effect and has no toxicity …” (Tétau) . The experimental verification, carried out through appropriate tests, and the accurate studies of the professors Netien and Raynaud concerning the chemical composition and pharmacological activity of the principles present in the buds (flavonoids, anthocyanins, vitamin C, amino acids such as arginine, proline, glycine and alanine) allowed to confirm the anti-inflammatory activity of Ribes nigrum buds and stimulating activity in the adrenal cortex. Furthermore, adaptogenic properties have been recently reported, which determine an immunoregulatory action and an increase in the body’s resistance to stress in a broad sense, preventing the onset of diseases “.

Ribes nigrum bud extract, antiallergic, anti-inflammatory, cortisone-like action, is a complementary remedy of all respiratory states of respiratory system: recurrent rhinopharyngitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, bronchial asthma, vasomotor rhinitis, flu syndromes and can be hired since early December for at least a month.
