Discover our tips to combat the symptoms of Menopause with natural remedies patented.

The term menopause means the cessation of spontaneous menstruation. Although the cessation of menstruation is a natural occurrence, hormonal alterations lead to the appearance of symptoms (hot flashes, sweating, vaginal dryness, irritability and depression) that are devastating for some women. These episodes can last from a few seconds to 20 minutes and can occur rarely or more than 10 times a day. Some women wake up suddenly wet with sweat or suffer from insomnia. Such sensations can be stimulated by a warm environment, alcohol, caffeine, stress, exercise and spicy foods.

The phase preceding the menopause is the peri-menopause (transition from the reproductive to the non-reproductive phase), while the phase that follows it is post-menopause. It is estimated that about 75-85% of women, during the menopause and / or menopause, complain of hot flashes and sweating, especially in the upper body and on the face and about 33% of women who experience such symptoms require medical care. Vaginal dryness and variations in sexual desire are among the major consequences of the diminished estrogen secretion that occurs at this time in a woman’s life.

Menopause natural remedies: plants that counteract menopause disorders

ESCOP (European Scientific Cooperative on Phytotherapy) recommends the use of chaste tree fruit for disorders of the menstrual cycle (amenorrhea, mastalgia, mastodynia, premenstrual syndrome) and of black cohosh rhizome for climacteric (symptoms such as hot flashes, profuse sweating, sleep, nervous irritability).

Furthermore, we cannot fail to mention the officinal sage: sage is rich in enzymes, vitamins B1 and C, and in flavonoids, in particular isoflavones, which have an action similar to estrogens. Thanks to the presence of these elements – which help to rebalance the hormonal system – sage has a positive effect in relieving hot flashes (thanks also to its action on the regularity of the sweating process), and in acting on disorders anxiety and mood typical of menopause. It can also be used in case of water retention and migraines, especially if caused by periods or menopause; to this is added the usefulness of sage in promoting digestive function and the elimination of intestinal gas.

Menopause: natural remedies to alleviate menopausal symptoms

Hormone therapy is generally used to alleviate the symptoms of menopause, albeit linked to a series of negative health effects, in particular cardiovascular problems and breast cancer risk, but recently published studies show how some plant-based therapies can play a role important in reducing these symptoms.

In an article that appeared in the journal “Pharmacist33” in 2016, Taulant Muka, researcher in general medicine at Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam in the Netherlands, stated: “Soy extracts contain isoflavones, substances with an estrogen-like activity capable of influencing secretion and metabolism of sex hormones “, but after conducting a meta-analysis on over 60 randomized clinical trials (which evaluated plant-based therapies and the presence of hot flashes, night sweats and vaginal dryness in a total of 6,653 women ), concluded: “The data collected suggest that phytoestrogens are linked to a decrease in flushing and vaginal dryness, but not in night sweats, while several herbal remedies are related to a reduction in the frequency of vasomotor symptoms”.

After numerous studies and tests was produced our Menopausa supplement Psyche LiberaVAMP, enhanced with the titrated Griffonia extract, in order to tackle the problems of menopause with a multifunctional approach:

  • thanks to Griffonia, Psyche LiberaVAMP acts on mood
  • thanks to the standardized Sage extract, it regulates the sweating process and counteracts menopausal disorders. It contrasts, regulates, deflates, and has undergone a triple extraction process.

Menopause: a help also from gemmotherapy

Also bud extracts, accompanied or not by specific supplements, are useful in menopause, this is what Tétau and Scimeca write: “We insist that Vaccinium vitis idaea (the cranberry bud extract) and Rubus idaeus (the raspberry bud extract) are the two great gemmotherapy treatments for postmenopausal women and which must be taken very regularly starting from this period “(op. cit., p. 116).

In particular, the raspberry bud extract, as a regulator of ovarian function, is indicated in the treatment of early menopause: it stimulates the ovaries when their function is slowed down, as regards both estrogen and progestin secretion. It also completes the action of Vaccinium vitis idaea in full-blown menopause, acting effectively in hot flashes. Generally in the treatment of premature menopause it is recommended to take the raspberry bud extract before breakfast and / or lunch and the cranberry bud extract before bedtime.

For menopausal circulatory disorders, raspberry bud extract (before breakfast), rowan (before lunch), chestnut (before bedtime) are generally recommended in combination.

How does the skin change when menopause arrives?

The sudden decline in estrogen production, together with the effects of aging and skin photo-aging, cause consequences on the appearance and health of the skin and skin appendages, which undergo not insignificant structural alterations.

Redness of the face and dryness of the skin are the first visible signs. The epidermis thins, is unable to retain water and greatly reduces the production of sebum. The result is dehydrated, rough skin with an altered barrier function: the skin, now more vulnerable, becomes more susceptible to external environmental and chemical agents; they could also worsen existing conditions (sensitive skin, rosacea) or new ones arise. The collagen is considerably reduced, the skin thus loses tone and elasticity. Wrinkles are accentuated, facial muscles relax and there is a progressive loss of the facial oval. Late symptoms include atrophy and dryness of the mucous membranes and alterations affecting the appendages: hair thinning, thickened, streaked and brittle nails.
